What is a release wave?
Microsoft releases major updates for Dynamics 365 and Power Platform twice a year: Wave 1 (April–September) and Wave 2 (October–March). These updates contain new features, improvements and sometimes fundamental changes to how the platform works.
Wave 1 2026 is special because it contains the most far-reaching Copilot integrations to date. AI is no longer a separate feature — it's woven into every module.
Dynamics 365 Sales
The Sales module gets a major upgrade:
- AI-driven pipeline scoring — Copilot analyzes your pipeline and gives concrete recommendations on which deals deserve priority
- Automatic meeting summaries — After a Teams call, Copilot automatically generates a summary with action items that are directly created as tasks
- Improved forecasting — Predictive forecasting now uses more data points and historical trends for more accurate predictions
- Sequence builder 2.0 — Visually build sales sequences with conditional logic and AI suggestions
Dynamics 365 Customer Service
Customer Service becomes smarter and more efficient:
- Copilot case summary — When an agent opens a case, they immediately see an AI summary of the complete customer journey
- Intelligent routing 2.0 — Cases are automatically routed based on sentiment, urgency and agent expertise
- Knowledge base with AI search — Copilot searches the knowledge base and formulates answers in the context of the specific customer question
- Proactive customer service — The system identifies patterns indicating potential problems before customers reach out
Dynamics 365 Marketing
The Marketing module (now Customer Insights - Journeys) gets powerful additions:
- AI-generated content — Copilot writes email copy, subject lines and social media posts based on your brand guidelines
- Advanced segmentation — Natural language segmentation: describe your audience in words and Copilot builds the segment
- Real-time journey orchestration — Trigger-based journeys respond faster and support more complex scenarios
Power Platform updates
The broader Power Platform also receives relevant updates:
- Power Apps with Copilot — Describe the app you want and Copilot generates a working first version. Read more about our Power Apps services
- Power Automate intelligent automation — AI-driven flow suggestions based on your existing processes
- Dataverse improvements — Better performance, more storage options and improved security roles
