Types of Power Apps
Power Apps offers three different types of applications for different purposes.
Model-driven apps are built based on your data model in Dataverse. The user interface is automatically generated based on the entities, relationships and business rules you define. This type of app is ideal for complex business processes with lots of data and relationships, such as CRM, case management or project management. Model-driven apps offer standard functionalities like views, forms, dashboards and advanced search.
Canvas apps offer complete control over the user interface. With a visual drag-and-drop editor, you design pixel-perfect screens that exactly match your requirements. Canvas apps can connect to hundreds of data sources, from sharePoint and excel to SQL server and external APIs. They are particularly suitable for task-oriented applications, mobile apps and forms.
Power Pages enables you to build external web portals connected to your Dataverse data. Customers, partners or suppliers get secure portal access to relevant information and functionality. Think of self-service portals, partner portals, application forms and knowledge bases. Power Pages supports authentication, authorization and responsive design.
