What is Claude Code?

Claude Code is the autonomous coding CLI developed by anthropic, the makers of Claude. Unlike traditional AI assistants that make suggestions in your editor, Claude Code is a full-fledged agent that independently navigates your codebase, reads and writes files, executes commands and handles complex programming tasks from start to finish. It's like having an experienced developer sitting next to you who understands your entire project.

What sets Claude Code apart from other AI tools is its agentic nature. Where Cursor or Copilot reactively make suggestions based on what you type, Claude Code proactively takes steps to execute your task. It plans an approach, navigates through files, writes code, runs tests and iterates on the result. You give a task and Claude Code executes it autonomously, while you can intervene or steer at any moment.

At Breathbase we use Claude Code daily for complex development tasks. From building complete features to refactoring large codebases, Claude Code significantly increases our productivity. Module 1: Claude Code fundamentals
  • What is Claude Code: Anthropic's agentic coding CLI, architecture and capabilities
  • Installation and configuration: Node.js, npm/npx, API key setup and authentication
  • Basic usage: commands, prompts and interactive mode
  • File management: reading, creating and editing files via Claude Code
  • Project context: how Claude Code understands and navigates your codebase
  • Output formats: markdown, code blocks and structured responses
3-4 hours
Module 2: Autonomous coding
  • Delegating complex tasks: building features, fixing bugs, performing refactoring
  • Review workflows: reviewing generated code and providing feedback
  • Iterative work: refining results through targeted follow-up prompts
  • Multi-file changes: coherent modifications across multiple files
  • Test generation: having unit tests, integration tests and e2e tests written
  • Code analysis: having Claude Code analyze your codebase and suggest improvements

Module 3: Agent workflows
  • Multi-step tasks: breaking down complex assignments and executing step by step
  • Tool use: using bash commands, file operations and search functions
  • Git integration: branches, commits, diffs and pull requests via Claude Code
  • File management: navigating, searching and analyzing large codebases
